Music Mondays for Moms (Week 4)

Audrey Assad is also a mom along with being a writer, songwriter, and amazing pianist. I had the joy of seeing her perform live in Minneapolis a few years ago, and she does not disappoint. She has been blessed with the gift of weaving words and music in a way that often sounds like modern hymns.

This song is one of my favorites because it applies not only to moms, but anyone who experiences seasons of loneliness, discontentment, or chaos…and that’s all of us! We are reminded in this song that the Lord speaks to us in the silence of our hearts. So often we can miss His voice in our speaking or running or doing of all the things in our lives. Yet, in the silence is where He often speaks. Do you make silence in your life friend? I know I need more silence in my own life and heart.

When we enter God’s presence, be it in exhaustion, fear, loneliness, joy, gratitude, however it may be- we can experience a change. We receive a bigger glimpse into the grander story and work of His Kingdom and His perspective. He will satisfy us there. So often I go to Him in worry, discontentment, impatience, unsatisfied-yet, its amazing how when we actually stop and listen to Him, read His Word, and slow down (be it 5 minutes or 50 minutes)-He speaks and He satisfies:

You satisfy me till I am quiet and confident
In the work of the Spirit I cannot see.

I love these words, and how they are repeated over and over again, in the silence of the heart-You speak, because it is there that He does speak. When we are quiet enough to listen.

“You Speak” by Audrey Assad

You liberate me from my own noise and my own chaos
From the chains of a lesser law You set me free
You liberate me from my own noise and my own chaos
From the chains of a lesser law You set me free

In the silence of the heart You speak
In the silence of the heart You speak
And it is there that I will know You
And You will know me
In the silence of the heart
You speak, You speak.

You satisfy me till I am quiet and confident
In the work of the Spirit I cannot see.
You satisfy me till I am quiet and confident
In the work of the Spirit I cannot see

In the silence of the heart You speak.
