5 Things to Encourage Your Heart in the Pandemic

Preface: It’s been over two months since Simple and Settled Life has had a new post-and wow, so much has changed in our everyday lives since then, right? I’ve been teaching online more due to my upcoming maternity leave and since my husband was temporarily not working. Pair that with increased fatigue from third trimester (I think I’d forgotten how exhausting this last month is before baby comes)-the blog fell by the wayside, again 😉

Anyways, in these crazy times, I want to share 5 songs/books/videos, etc. that have been used in our home. And I hope you’ll listen and remember the truth in the chaos.

1. Listen: “Jesus, Strong and Kind” by City Alight

Jesus said that if I fear
I should come to Him
No one else can be my shield
I should come to Him

For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind

2. Read: ” None Like Him” by Jen Wilkin

This book is an easy read-divided into chapters with questions to reflect on and Scripture to look up after each one. Studying Who God is brings much comfort during times of unknowns and craziness-it reminds me of how different He really is from us and how that is a VERY good thing!

3. Watch: “Mom Core” -Video Series by Karen Stubbs from Birds on a Wire Ministries

Here’s the deal though, to watch these videos for free you need to have access to Right Now Media through a church. I recently wrapped up this series with a small group of mom friends and it is SO good. My favorite sessions are 4. “Being a Student of Your Child” and 6. “Contentment.”

Sidenote: as long as we are on the topic of Karen Stubbs, I have to also highly recommend her video series called “Parenting Together” she did with her husband, Greg, also available on Rightnow Media. My hubby and I just finished watching them and it launched some great conversations. Karen and Greg are so wise and have a lot of gems to share with us parents!

4. Listen: “Only My Jesus” by Alisa Turner feat. Leslie Jordan

“With whom shall I face my tomorrows
With whom shall I conquer my fears
Oh let it be only my Jesus
Who will not abandon me here”

5. Listen: “Give Thanks” by Zach Winters

We don’t have to be sure of everything to give thanks
Just to notice a kindness as we go on our way
We all know the pain of living every day
But watch the world change colors when we give thanks

Mhmmmmm. I love that last line. Gratitude changes a lot.

Be encouraged mama! You aren’t alone and you are so very loved.

How are you staying sane these days? What books/videos/songs are keeping your heart afloat? I’d love to hear from you! Thanks for being here 🙂
